The current President of Ukraine and the leader of the Party of Regions, the biggest political party of Ukraine. Viktor Yanukovych was born 9 July 1950 in Yenakievo, Donetsk oblast. He was twice put in prison for crimes in his youth (in 1967 for robbery, and later in 1969 for assault). BBC Profile: Viktor Yanukovych

He was the Governor of Donetsk Oblast from 1997 to 2002. From 2002 to 2004 he was Prime Minister of Ukraine under President Leonid Kuchma. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2004 presidential election, ultimately losing to Viktor Yushchenko. He also served as Prime Minister for a second time from 2006 to 2007 under President Yushchenko. Yanukovych won the presidential election in 2010, his main opponent was Yulia Tymoshenko.

In 2013 President Viktor Yanukovich seemed to be on track to signing a trade and political agreement with the European Union. Nevertheless, at the Vilnius Summit on December 9 Yanukovych did not sign any agreement with EU. After that President Yanukovych definitely has lost support and legitimacy among the Ukrainian people. Yanukovych created a crisis by rejecting the path toward integration with the EU and ignoring public position. It expressed in the way of Euromaidan – rally which began on the night of 21 November 2013 due to a massive public protest against closure of a European integration.

Ukrainians there demand that Yanukovych and all government should resign and that Ukraine should move forward with plans to integrate with the EU. Read more here

Oleksandr Yanukovych, younger son of a President of Ukraine

Oleksandr Yankovych, born 10 July 1973 in Donetsk, is a businessman and younger son of the President of Ukraine.

A dentist by profession has become one of the wealthiest businessmen in Ukraine and the second richest person in Donetsk after Rinat Akhmetov.

The rise of Oleksandr Yanukovych’s business empire took place in 2010–2013, when his father held the post of President of Ukraine. Prior to 2010, Mr. Oleksandr Yanukovych owned only Management Assets Corporation (MAK, LLC) with a statutory capital of 55 million UAH (almost $7 million USD). Oleksandr Yanukovych assets

In  2013 Oleksandr Yanykovych assets are estimated by Forbes in total value of 510 million USD.

He is the third in rating «TOP-100 influential Ukrainians 2013» of Ukrainian newspaper «Correspondent».

Viktor Yanukovych, elder son of a President of Ukraine

Viktor Yanukovych, born 16 July 1981 in Yenakiieve, is a Ukrainian politician and Member of Parliament (Party of Regions). He is the elder son of the current President of Ukraine.

From 2002 to 2004 Yanukovych served as a vice-president of the Donetsk regional public organization “Regional Center Spryiannia” (Promotion). From 2004 to 2004 he served as first deputy general director of SK, a limited liability company in Donetsk. Beginning in 2005 he held the post of first deputy general director of BK Engineering. From 2005 to 2010 he worked as deputy head of the Ukrainian youth public organization “Soyuz molodi regioniv Ukrainy” (Union of Ukrainian Youth of Regions). Since 2006 he is a Member of Parliament from the Party of Regions. In 2010 he became the Honorary President of the Ukrainian youth public political organization Young Regions.

During the 2012 Ukrainian parliamentary election he was re-elected into parliament.
